The Division of Information Technology implements informatics and data science methods to enhance laboratory information systems, with the goal of improving clinical and public health outcomes. The section is involved in the management of data and analysis for various clinical trial initiatives. The division offers extensive support to investigators conducting clinical trials, including eCRF design, data and project management, and data analysis. The division is responsible for creating databases on occupational exposures and diseases, as well as promoting cutting-edge biological research and implementing effective informatics technologies to advance health sciences research. The Division provides IT Infrastructure support and facilitates IT-enabled Services to the institute. Division aids and assists in the functioning of certain Legacy Applications at different units within the divisions. Moreover, the division is responsible for devising the implementation strategy for the Digital India Programme in different areas of e-Governance in the institute. Facilitating knowledge management and dissemination through workshops, the creation of case studies, the exchange of best practices, and the establishment of knowledge repositories.
Animal House Facility
The objective of the Animal House facility is to meet the research requirements of the institute for laboratory animals and offer technical support. The Animal House facility is officially registered with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), New Delhi. The registration number is 111/GO/RBi/S/99/CPCSEA. The facility is authorised for the purpose of raising animals for experimentation and breeding small animals such as mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits. The facility operates in accordance with the guidelines set by the CCSEA, New Delhi. Every endeavour is being undertaken to ensure the well-being of animals, with a focus on preventing any unnecessary pain and suffering, and according to the principles of the 3 R's. The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) has regular meetings to ensure the well-being of animals. The institution is overseen by a highly trained veterinarian specialising in Experimental Toxicology and Laboratory Animals. The animal facility personnel are highly skilled in the care and welfare of animals. Internal breeding is conducted to meet the requirements of scientists engaged in animal testing. Currently, we are currently maintaining three separate strains of rats and mice. The mice used in the study were C57BL6J, Swiss albino, and BALB/c strains. The facility is equipped with a wide range of sophisticated equipment. Examples of equipment include the Veterinary Haematology (IDEXX) analyser and a microscope with a digital camera. Dr S K Chatterjee Library of the institute has a distinctive and scarce assortment of various books pertaining to occupational health and medicine, environmental health and pollution, toxicology, and related sciences. The library houses a comprehensive assortment of literature, including books, papers, and periodicals from esteemed international organisations such as WHO, ILO, HMSO, NIOSH, and others. The library serves the purpose of meeting the documentation and information requirements of the institute, as well as other research organisations, medical colleges, and postgraduate environmental science institutes. The library has significantly contributed to reference operations through the provision of information distribution services such as MEDLINE Searches, Proquest Medical Library, a full-text database of journals, and other online retrieval activities utilising the Institute's LAN network.
